Threats, harassment, and stalking
Threats of harm and a course of conduct that would make a reasonable person feel frightened or harassed are crimes in Nevada (NRS 200.571, 200.575). If you are in danger, call 911.
A court can issue a protection order against stalking or harassment. Justice Court handles these. A temporary order can last up to 45 days and an extended order up to two years. Filing fees are deferred. These orders require threats or conduct that causes fear. Ordinary annoyance, however persistent, is a nuisance matter and not a basis for a protection order.
Boundary and survey questions
A dispute about where the line is, or about a structure built over it, turns on recorded documents and a survey by a licensed land surveyor. Start with the recorded plat from the county recorder. If a tree or wall is the real issue, see trees, branches, and roots and property damage.
Defamation
False statements of fact that damage your reputation are a separate claim with its own requirements. We do not handle defamation under this brand.
Mediation
When both neighbors are willing to talk, the Neighborhood Justice Center in Clark County offers mediation at no cost: (702) 455-3898.
When it is also a nuisance
Many of these situations come with a nuisance attached, such as constant noise aimed at you or lights turned on your windows. If that is your situation, tell us about it.
